About the site
I created this site in an attempt to hearken back to the Good Ol’ Days of the internet: when ad banners were scarce, content was deeply personal, and creativity and freedom were deeply-rooted principles.
Why the title? Simply because it’s true–Things Are Not Okay. American society seems on the cusp of reaching a dark new stable state. The planet is alternately burning and flooding; garbage wafts through the air and into our bodies, new species of flora and fauna fall prey to mankind’s depredations (both ignorant and intentional), and our crimes against each other seem to reach cruel new heights almost daily even as they are hidden from us by the powers that be.
Sidenote: Have things ever been okay? No. But I don’t think that makes it problematic to complain.
Not that I intend this site to be a digital jeremiad against the current state of the world. It’s more that these trends have inspired me to carve out a corner of the internet for myself and my own interests, somewhere I can post things that aren’t necessarily dark and despairing. Who knows what comes after all of this, but I sense that building this site will help me fend off some of the sourness that comes from living in this particular juncture in history–and hey, maybe I’ll even get a little perspective from this whole venture.
